What is the Pet Valu Walk For Dog Guides?
The Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides is a national fundraising walk held in approximately 300 communities across Canada. It raises funds to help train Dog Guides for Canadians with visual, hearing, medical or physical disabilities. Each Walk is organized by local volunteers with support from Lions Foundation of Canada. To date, the Walk has raised more than $18 million!
Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides
Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides (LFCDG) is a national charity. Its mission is to provide service to Canadians with a medical or physical disability in the areas of mobility, safety and independence.
Since 1983, Lions Foundation of Canada has operated Dog Guides Canada to provide specially trained Dog Guides to more than 1600 men, women and children from coast to coast. In addition to training Dog Guides for people who are blind or visually impaired, LFCDG also trains Dog Guides to meet the needs of Canadians with disabilities.
Dog Guides Canada operates six programs:
CANINE VISION DOG GUIDES for people who are blind or visually impaired
HEARING EAR DOG GUIDES for people who are deaf or hard of hearing
SPECIAL SKILLS DOG GU IDES for people with a medical or physical disability
SEIZURE RESPONSE DOG GUIDES for people who have epilepsy
AUTISM ASSISTANCE DOG GUIDES for children aged 3-18 with autism
DIABETIC ALERT DOG GUIDE for people aged 10 or older who have type 1 diabetes with hypoglycemic unawareness
